Time to prepare for spring – drop in gardening restarts

It’s time to think about getting the garden ready for the Spring and summer!

Drop in gardening is restarting, and although weather dependent, we have jobs that can be done rain or shine.

As you can see when you pass by the garden the temporary fencing round the building and raised beds has been taken away, the drop off area for supplies is being constructed along with the path to the, as yet, unrepaired bridge to the park and between Pinnington Close and Stallan Close.

The dates for your diary are Sunday February 6th, Thursday February 17th, and Sunday February 20th. Installing rabbit proofing round the vegetable beds is a priority – much though we love our furry friends they have already helped themselves to all the onion sets!

In March we will be planting roses and sowing seeds.

You may have noticed that more trees have been planted by volunteers and we hope to have space for a few more, once the East side of the garden (nearest Hobson’s Park) has been restored and becomes useable again.

We don’t yet have a date for the handover of the garden from Countryside to the Council, and then made officially available to the Garden Group volunteers, but we hope it won’t be further delayed. – Although there are still several important jobs for Countryside to complete.
