Winter this year has brought some horrible weather but we have not let that stop us.
On Sunday 8th December, Frank and Chris from the community garden teamed up with Nicola from local business “Cambridge Micro Greens” to run a stall at the 2024 Trumpington Eco Christmas Market at the Clay Farm Centre.
Nicola did a brilliant job in supplying materials and running a hands on activity for children and parents, planting micro green seeds in trays to take home and grow and eat.
Frank and Chris put together a host of information about the garden, new ideas and litter picking in Trumpington. There was a high level of interest and we look forward to involving those who shared their details.
In all, it was a great success not just for us, but the market as a whole, despite the poor weather.
Four days later, on Thursday 12th December, we hosted our annual Christmas Garden Party in the evening for the community.
There was a fire pit where children and parents toasted marshmallows and kept everyone nice and warm, homemade mulled wine and apple juice and mince pies were sold to raise funds for the garden.
A big thank you to Tom at “VG Coffee” for stepping in at short notice to supply coffee, tea and hot chocolate. We had the delights of “Steak & Honour” keeping everyone fed through out the evening too.
Plus, we had a wonderful performance by the local church choir of St. Mary & St. Michael, singing an array of carols, with many of you joining in as well. The carols really lifted everyone’s spirits and brought joy to a dark winter evening.
It was a great turnout both at the market and party and we give a big thank you to everyone for joining and supporting us.
2025 brings warmer months, sunshine, colour and more plans to develop the garden further for all to enjoy.
