On Sunday 15th January the Community Garden joined the Trumpington Community Orchard to celebrate Wassail – an ancient Anglo-Saxon tradition.
People gathered at the Orchard to start where we all sung, danced, and toasted the orchard trees by hanging toast on the branches and pouring mulled apple juice over the foot of the trees to encourage a good healthy harvest for later in the year.
Then everyone joined in the procession to the Community Garden where more singing and toasting took place around our orchard trees.
This afternoon of celebration was brought to a close in a communal way, all congregating in front of the garden building drinking homemade hot mulled apple juice and chatting to each other….
An absolutely fantastic January Sunday afternoon had by all!
